Successful British model Sam was making a big name for himself on the catwalks of Rome when he met and fell head over heels in love with Lauro, a waiter in a pizza restaurant. Lauro, charming and naïve, returned all Sam's affection, and they enjoyed one passionate summer in the vibrant city and the wild campagna countryside beyond. But Sam had big dreams. He accepted a modelling assignment in New York and left his pizza boy behind.
Now Sam is back, older and wiser. But Lauro is older and wiser too. Can the city of eternal romance work its magic on these two star-crossed lovers?

Harper Fox manages to pack a novel's worth of narrative into a very short novella, or a really long short story. Its format means that it can't provide the depth of character or plot that we (her fans) expect; but I was startled at how much there was in those pages; how vivid a picture I had in my head by the end. And not just because the setting is Rome.I am always amused, when reading reviews, that readers want the characters to behave differently from the way they do; as if people don't make galling errors in judgement every day.
I don't know, IS there an underworld of rent boys who used to be runway models? But if there was, I completely see how a too-young and too-pretty model could be lured into that. I am not familiar with many former couture models who became college professors or accountants. Where to they all go?
And, some ask, why wouldn't Lauro just tell Sam his big secret? Well, would YOU? I wouldn't have.
The pacing, the details, the writing, the palpable emotion. Everything that makes Harper Fox so delicious to read is right there, in a nutshell, as it were.

All Roads Lead to You edition by Harper Fox Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I read it straight through, couldn't put it down. The emotion and insight into the characters make her one of my favorite authors. This is another fave to add to my Harper Fox collection.
I think Harper Fox is an amazing writer and very often in her stories you have to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy the beauty of the emotions going back and forth between the guys. And I definitely agree that she conveys angst and yearning beatifully in this one, but all the events that lead to their second meeting just felt a bit too contrived for me. Sam could not get another job, really? Surely he could have try to find something before jumping with his eyes closed to this one?
Oh and their initial misunderstanding could have been avoided too and I am still not sure why Lauro just could not tell Sam what was really happening.
3.5 stars.
There is a reason that Harper is one of my favorite authors - her gift with words is so moving and engrossing that I have to devour every book.My only complaint is that this book was a novella and I wanted to spend more time with the characters
This was a really good book. The first page or two weren't great but it got much better. The ending was a little vague for me but not enough I wouldn't recommend the book. Very strong characters - the hot British model and his Italian lover boy. Yum
I really like Harper Fox, she writes so beautifully! This is a tiny piece but gives a glimpse of Rome and Italian cooking that lingers on the senses.
Sam is having a bad time of it, his dreams of modelling have not turned out like he expected and he remembers the magic time he had with Lauro. They reconnect unexpectedly and things progress. I didn't like the ending, there was a note that jarred on me, that's why it's 4 stars and not 5, but I really liked the build up and I loved both men and Rome and pasta.. what more could you ask for.
rather short but worth it.
I have to say that I love Harper Fox. I read all her books and found most of them at least 4.5 if not 5 star quality. Her writing style is beautiful and there is always a good exiting story to go with the romance. I was loving this book until I got to the end of it. The story came to an abrupt happy ending hault. just a few pages before i felt like it was still developing and hasn't even hit its peak. I was expecting a complicated plot but instead got a crashing end of story. Disapointed I said, what thats it .... So if you would like to read more of this authors books, don't start with this one. You may be a bit disapointed.
This is a beautifully executed short story. The moods experienced by both Sam & Lauro, as well as those radiated from the Italian setting, were vividly portrayed. The author deftly maneuvers the reader through such issues as miscommunication! avoidance of truth! assumptions! impetuousness! bravado! and... poor knowledge of Italian numerals ;-) to bring us a genuinely engaging story of true love. I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly engaged with the clever plot twists (and readily admit to face-palming at one point). Love that the end was sweet yet indistinct - it left me breathless, smiling and daydreaming about what the next move for these two was going to be.
Thank you Harper for transporting me to Rome and her surrounding countryside in the company of Sam and Lauro -)
